If you could take any class for free, what would you choose?

Easy – exercise, would have to be Tai Chi. I would love to have a proper teacher rather than some half assed mung bean sucking mantra chanting hippy who misses the point of what it’s about and is just running through the motions (wow. Bad previous experience much??). People seem to forget it’s a martial art, and don’t concentrate on the whole state, just the mental. Pfft to them.

Non exercise, a language. I’ve even been tossing up French, just to get my brain into gear – but it’s no fun by yourself. Seeming as there’s two of us we really should be into our Japanese… but we’re both inherently lazy 🙂

Cooking? French. Pastries – or desserts? They look so intricate and delicate and I can’t eat either… so I should at least be able to appreciate what they look like – right?

this week’s not been too bad actually

I’m pleasantly surprised.

Sunday was a quick 1.5K run and a paddle around the pool,
Monday was a nothing day I think. Don’t remember resting, but I guess I did
Tuesday was a 4.6K run in 29:18 the morning (Oh the humidity!!), plus MMA circuits (far too many squats – and kettle bells? keep those suckers!)
Wednesday was Cardio circuits at the gym in the morning (with Mr Squats again!!), plus pilates for lunch.
Thursday was a LSD after lunch – 5.5K in 38:37. In 33 degree heat. DAMN HOT!

Tomorrow we have another 8K forced march in 1:30. I’m not going to lie when I say I am NOT looking forward to it in the slightest, esp with the hammering my legs have had this week. I will however, give it a crack, and give it my best shot. If that’s not good enough, fuck them. I don’t care.

Here’s my weekly roundup in the wrong page. Meh. My blog – sue me.

a. My quads are killing me. I am walking like a troll so I don’t have to use my thigh muscles. And this afternoon – my abs are sore. Didn’t know I had any, so I’m thinking something in the circuits is doing me some good. I’ll attempt to keep it up while the lush is away on course, and maybe con him into going after he gets back.

b. Yesterday was my first experience at pilates. Some chick I never met before was leaning over me pushing my legs straight up towards my head as I was lying on my back. I’d like to think she’d buy me dinner before getting up so close and personal, but oh well. I don’t know if I liked it, but people rave about it, and I know stretching is good for me. On the plus side, it’s free. And it’s once a week, so that’s another thing I’m going to try and keep up.

c. I can handle running in the heat, as long as I:

  1. Don’t eat so much before I go. Two lunches worth is NOT the way to go,
  2. Hydrate constantly beforehand. All damn day. Till it’s coming out my ears, and
  3. Remember that I will run slower, feel worse and probably hate at least the second half. It’s about DOING, not about breaking records.

d. I think I’d like to give swimming another go – but I don’t like those earplugs I have. The cap is groovy, but the earplugs are a little hard. I wonder if squishy sound plugs will work? Maybe I’ll visit the sports shop on the weekend…

e. I seem to have not lost any weight on the scales this week, but I definately feel better now that I’m finding my groove again. Been hungry this week too, which is okay, but I’ve been eating, which isn’t so good. At least I’ve been eating the right foods, just more than what I’d usually eat. Guess you have to take the hungry with the not hungry. It’ll even out I’m sure. Hopefully the scales are like that because I’ve put on so much muscle doing squats and pilates (mhmm – an hour class will do that to a gal!), but I’m not worried. I feel good 🙂

Honey, I’m home… again!

Back from rolling around in the dust for a little while, and while I enjoy it, it’s nice to get home to my family, and a sense of normality. If you could call this household normal!

We really need to be tidying up today for the lush of my life’s daughter, who will be staying with us for the next week. I also need to be exercising – which I didn’t do for the past two weeks, and we need to be sorting out our excess requirements for the cyclone prep pick up tomorrow.

In other words, the pair of us need to get up off our asses and get into gear.

Starting now.

I think it’s time for a change.

I only just noticed that I haven’t been recording my weekly exercise, nor my weight – at least since before we left on hols.

And I’m not quite sure why.

Is it because I don’t need it in my life (right now? anymore?), or have I got out of the habit while on holiday? Maybe I know that I’ve done everything I should’ve so I don’t feel the need to check on myself/justify myself? It’s kind of liberating, not doing it, but also kind of scary as well – what if I slip up?

Anyhoo – I am about to go into the field for two weeks 11 days, so I will probably keep notes on my phone of what I eat, given that I’m away from all my food and eating someone elses menu! At least it’s fresh food, which means protein for breakfast (eggs and bacon and mmmmmm… mushrooms!!) and salads for lunch (it’ll take a bit not to miss those cold soba salads from Japan though!), with dinner being the only unknown quantity – they like to have starches for dinner. I shall have to maintain my tough stance! Unfortunately, I’m worried about my snacks. ATM I am having nuts for morning tea, and soy yoghurt and fruit for afternoon tea. There should be fruit there, but dairy yoghurt is a no-no, and I am taking some almonds in with me. Hopefully that’ll be enough to tide me over, but boredom will be a problem. I will miss my jam sandwiches to pick me up!

I hate figures. Numerical ones anyway…

I don’t believe it.

A girlfriend asked if my BMI was in the healthy range, given I’ve lost weight. I didn’t know, but said I’d look it up – being quietly confident that I’d surely be at the top end of the healthy figures.

Nuh ah. Not even CLOSE! In order to even start in the healthy range, I need to loose another 7 kilos. I wouldn’t mind losing another 10, but as this 10 has made such a difference already, more will be much more noticable… so I dug a little deeper…

To be at the lower end of the healthy range – that is, not unhealthly skinny, I could get down to 48kg. Which would mean a total loss of 34 kilos, or nearly one third of my starting weight. Ridiculous! I would be a bag of bones (and some very scrawny muscle holding it all together!)!

I don’t think I’ll bother with that BMI bullshit again.

It’s damn hot.

The temperature is actually cooler today – it’s only 31 degrees, but the relative humidity is up in the 65% range, making it just UGH.

Unfortunately for me, the air conditioner isn’t getting fixed until next week, so while I’d really like to have a little afternoon snooze, it’s unlikely to happen. I’m not really tired, it’s just one of those weekend lazy indulgences I like to have every now and then.

I’d also like to run. And go for a swim with my new groovy cap and goggles – but it’s too hot just yet to do those either. I’ll leave it for another hour or two I think.

(and it’s DEFINATELY too hot for housework!)
